Crete

Crete is the largest island of Greece and is located in the south of the Aegean Sea. Crete is one of the most famous Greek islands as it is separated in 4 prefectures; Chania, Heraklion, Lassithi and Rethymno. The climate of Crete is probably the mildest in Europe, when temperatures are often higher than in spring. The strong north-westerly wind, the 'meltemi', moderates even the hottest months of July and August. Rainfall is rare during the summer months.

Indulge your palate with traditional Cretan specialties as the Cretan cuisine comprises a whole philosophy of life and represents the lifestyle of the Cretan people. Cretan food and Greek food in general, traditionally centres round vegetables, fish, seafood, oil and a pelethora of fruit. Meat is less of a centrepiece, more often used to enrich primarily vegetable dishes.

Crete has an impressive variety of goods to offer shoppers, from top designer labels and exquisite jewellery to fine antiques and high quality leather goods. The prefecture of Heraklion proposes a varied and lively night life which is particularly intense in the capital of the Heraklion Town, Malia and Limenas Hersonissou. Modern bars proposing all kinds of atmosphere and music are available as well as night clubs which stay open until dawn.
